Tuscany

Via Barchi to Belvedere (Tuscany)

We moved up north to Barchi to stay a few days in Country house Montesoffia. Driving through the country from south up north made us happier. The area is more what we are looking for, at least that is what we think. Less steep roads and more diversity in the landscaping. A detour via Fratte Rosa, the ceramic town of le Marche, where of course I bought a beautiful jug to take home and some small gifts brought us in the end to Montesoffia. A long dirt road led us to a big orange countryhouse. Beautiful views, a nice swimming pool in the sun (warmer than the pool at Il Vecchio Acero 😉 ) and a spacious appartment. We stayed here 3 nights and decided along the way to drive across Italy to Tuscany, as we do like the nature but to live here the

A long ride

No Autostrada was our goal. When you know that even when you choose to avoid the Autostrada you are still guided towards the Autostrada at a certain point on the route we decided to drive. So being alert is key. Instead of passing Lake Trasimeno on the north side (Autostrada) we passed it on the south side. Yes it takes more time, but we had the tie to do it. At the end of the day we arrived in Suvereto, where I booked us a studio via Booking.com. Google guided us perfectly to the right address and we were surprised!!

We ended up on a mountain, a small village called Belvedere in beautiful Tuscany. This town has 12 residents and more guests in the Borgo. It has a great restaurant and the next morning we even loved this place more. A garden with a small pool. Outside breakfast area, next to the outside dining area we ate the evening before. And very nice people. A place worth visiting and staying!

Driving through the area

In the three days that followed we drove through different parts of Tuscany. We saw beautiful places, but also less beautiful things like pipelines for geothermia. We visited bigger and small towns and we decided that this area is much better than le Marche. At least for what we are looking for. Nevertheless we also noticed that living here all year round is more difficult. Temperatures are going lower than we hoped. So if we like to live in Italy we have to go even more south. And that’s not the area we want to go to.

Next to explore….

Driving home we talked a lot about what we both would like to be our next step. We parked the ideas a few days when we got home. Temperatures in the Netherlands are way lower and we are cold. We want to go back south to warmer temperatures. So we are planning our next trip, for a longer period of time and we are not going to Italy. We are going to….Spain!
